I like it. It's not my favorite, but I quite enjoy it. To me, it's sort of a last ditch effort to get the person you love to stay. It's begging, because the speaker knows that no matter how much love he gives, she will never feel the same way. It's pathetic in the literal sense- it genuinely makes you feel sad. There's more to it than the baby sweaters and the flat screen tv.
I like the song too. I have no idea why people don't like the song. But I have no doubt that there will be this long response about It being thrown together just to take up space on the album cause the ever so evil entity that is 3eb (now) were on a deadline so SJ pulled it out of his ass and its such a disrespect to the loyal fans who waited 6 long years for an album and we deserve better blah blah blah. I personally think "About to break" is the huge pile of stinking dog shit on the album ( not that i dont like it anyway) but those lyrics are WEAK SAUCE ( doctors without borders)! truth be told I think some folks are just finding out life isn't perfect and they need a song to blame. alright kiddies let me have it I'm waiting.
i liked everyting about one in ten i feel like its the same sorta stuff from self tittled, same person just older and i guess it really is but its the same stuff. and people act like they hate why cant you be too. i love that song too. i even love the one with kimya dawson. she sounds like a girlfriend not a singer and that made it great. and i like about to break but i liked its old lyrics more. like "patron saint britney spears" i think that was a better 3eb style lyric and really points out how ppl focus too much on other ppl about they should be theirselves, or how other ppl should be based on theirselves.
summer town was the obvious bust but i didnt mind the rap part. what got me is how you cant even hear the acoustic guitar. the leads and drums are way too loud. so are the vocals.
from now on im not going to listen to songs until the cd comes out as best i can unless like demos are leaked but not live stuff that way i wont anythign to compare it to when the cd comes out (whenever minor does) and i can just like it that way

I wish Kimya Dawson would've sounded like a singer. Or at least a girlfriend who's not tone deaf. And I like summer town, but I wish the rap were cut in half. I think it's a lesson learned.
I agree with both of you. Kimya Dawson did sound bad I agree with Apples. I love "why can't you be" I just wish it would have realy built like an argument especially the moxy and broken nose part. That could have been voiced much angrier and more sarcastic in my oppinion. I will say I like the version on Red Star e.p better. I like summertown too. You do have a good point about the mix though. The whole album could have been mixed better. But I like feel good songs too. And what's wrong with being generous with the bumps of the fake cocain ( other than its fake cocain)? Good post, also glad to see the vultures haven't attacked (yet)
I didn't really like the vocals on Ursa Major at all.. They seemed to much like they were pasted over the top of the music... rather then blending as one... like the self titled... Red Star and Non Dairy Creamer's had that feel but, most of Ursa did not..
i can't say i "don't like" any of 3eb's songs.
i have my faves of course--but the rest settle right in the category of awesome.
stephan jenkins has a beautiful voice.
hell, i'd listen to him rap dr. seuss to the tune of the star spangled banner.
just sayin.
I love 1 in 10. I like that it sounds raw and unfinished like it was in a high school band room or something. When I first heard it I thought "what is this?! How could they put a blip of carnival barker on here and put this on as a track and not a bonus track?" But then it grew on me faster and more than I ever thought it would ;)
I can't say I liked Kimya in Why can't you be, but it actually made me like her more in self rightous than previously and I admire her as a person. She's pretty cool just not my style. Definitely respectable though.
definitely a "filler" song, but am I wrong by loving ANY song from 3eb....
granted you can tell me the lyrics are this or that...or the music isn't as good as this song or that song...but hell I remember the days (God, I feel old) when every song I heard from them...I loved...
I remember being so upset when they changed lyrics to WFYS when they put it on OOTV but I welcomed it...I mean...it's still 3eb, right?
Doesn't every band have filler songs? I loved the ST CD from beginning to end...but even so there is a song or two that ISN'T as good as one of the others....but come on...it's all love...it's all 3eb...
